It’s fall and that means Halloween is just around the corner! Do you prefer the ghostly or laid-back fall vibes?
I like it spooky. And while it took me about two weeks to get out the decorations to set the all-hallows-eve mood up in my home, I’m likely the only one who will experience it. However, I’ve been thinking about costumes. Whether you’re an adult going out to a Halloween Bash or haunted house experience, or your family is going trick-or-treating around the neighborhood, finding fun costume ideas can be tricky—especially if it's last minute.
The most common images of Black girls and women in Halloween costumes are pretty predictable (i.e. rapper, gangster, sexy something or other, etc). So I decided to doodle a few ideas that ignore the race, gender, age stereotypes to help you get your creative juices going.
Halloween costumes are basically cosplay, whether we are dressing up as our favorite TV/movie icons or kitchen condiments, it can be fun to slip into the character for a few hours. Costumes can be as simple or complicated as you want, so whether homemade or purchased, modern or classic, here are some fun looks that can all be pulled together with short notice and low-cost supplies from your closet or local discount and craft store.
