Our Mission

Named for educator and activist Septima Poinsette Clark, the Septima Clark Academy provides academic curricula and enrichment programs, exposure, and experiences that serve the needs and whims of developing scholars. From the environment to the methods, we lean on the concepts and philosophies of women pioneers in education and activism to steward the scholastic journey of young scholars in Jackson, Miss., with a student-centered approach to help guarantee their greatest outcomes.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR AGENCY

We aim to cultivate opportunities for families to exercise agency in their child’s educational journey.

ACADEMIC GROWTH

We aim to implement curricula that honor the scholar’s present scholastic development while also bolstering her academic growth.

AUTONOMOUS LEARNING

We aim to create an environment where Black girls and boys can become autonomous learners surrounded by a close-knit team of supporters.

RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT

We aim to create space for our scholars to intentionally engineer their own personal development and build meaningful relationships with peers.

Our Programmatic Structure

There are currently three components to SCA’s programmatic structure: education consulting, parent seminars, and our independent school for grades 6-9.

Education Consulting

For parents and caregivers of our scholars and the children in their communities, we lend ourselves to listen, offer guidance and provide well thought out, individualized strategic academic plans to improve or enhance their child’s academic and social outcomes.

Independent School

Our school serves children in their journey to becoming curious thinkers, and confident culture makers, who prioritize scholastic, social and emotional wholeness at each stage of their academic journey. Scholars participate in whole group lessons according to their skill aptitude in humanities, science, art and small group lessons according to their skill level and learning style in literature, writing and math. This program offers an intimate student teacher ratio to help ensure that scholars receive the support they need to thrive and create study habits that encourage deep thinking. Scholars will also have an opportunity to connect with local businesses, organizations, and institutions (museums, hospital, medical and law practices, etc.) to extend their learning past the classroom and in efforts to broaden the scholar’s dreams and scope of possibilities after grade school.
