Jazmine Sullivan: “Heaux Tales” (Jan. 8) R&B singer-songwriter Jazmine Sullivan released “Heaux Tales” on Jan. 8, her first album since her 2015 “Reality Show.” Featured artists on the 14-track album include Ari Lennox, H.E.R., and Anderson .Paak.

Jon Batiste: “I Need You” (Jan. 22) Jon Batiste dropped old-school jazz vibes on us with his new single “I Need You.” In the music video released on Jan. 22, jazz and R&B singer-musician Batiste flips the script and turns a quiet art gallery into a jumping swing dance club. The song is part of his upcoming album, “We Are,” to be released in March.

Madlib: “Sound Ancestors” (Jan. 29) DJ, music producer, multi-instrumentalist and rapper Madlib released his first solo album titled “Sound Ancestors” on Jan. 29. The 16-track album, compiled with beats and sketches, was edited and arranged by UK producer Four Tet.

Sounds include spiritual jazz, afro-beat, rock and soul.

Drake: “Certified Lover Boy” (Jan. 2021… well, TBA) See, what had happened was… Drake announced in October he’d be releasing an album in January of this year. Though, on Jan. 20, the rapper announced on his Instagram that the release would be delayed due to his surgery and recovery. While it won’t be dropping this month, he shared it’ll happen sometime this year.

Here’s to 2021.
