Things we love in our homes that just make sense

Over the past two years many of us have spent more time exploring our homes and thinking about how we can make them more comfortable, beautiful, and practical. If you look at TikTok any length of time you’re sure to notice how much home improvement and design interests have inspired people. Do it yourself (DIY) projects, furniture dupes, lighting, how-to hacks to make rented living spaces reflect their inhabitant’s style, to the best deals on counter-top appliances, everyone is looking at ways to bring more comfort into their homes.  Here are a few items we at The Lighthouse absolutely love!

Need a humidifier that doesn’t require filters, has warm or cold mist, and can be filled from the top? Try the HoMedics Total Comfort Ultrasonic Humidifier with UV-C Technology.

I love an easy to clean gadget that does what I need it to do. I’ve had a few humidifiers over the years, and they always needed filters or filled from the bottom. Neither seems like a big deal until you are constantly buying filters or spilling water or flipping full tanks right side up.

I love this HoMedics option because it’s well designed, easy to carry, clean, and fill, and it can run anywhere from 12-120 hours depending on how much mist you want to flow.

I have a small kitchen and limited counter

space, so I’m very cautious about adding appliances that I won’t use regularly or can’t easily store in a cabinet. After two years of asking people who owned an air fryer what they thought about it and how they used it, I was able to determine that it was likely a good appliance to add to my kitchen. I finally bought the Gourmia 7-Quart Digital Air Fryer. Sold only at Costco, it took me about a week of suspicious glances before I finally decided to give it a whirl.

I can now say that I am officially team air fryer. It has 10 one-touch cooking functions – including air fry, bake, broil, and dehydrate. It’s been great at knocking out some of my regular menu items and has cut down on my time spent cooking.

I have two cats and had two litter boxes. For me, a big part of having cats meant working to ensure that if you visited my home, you couldn’t tell cats lived here too. And despite their reputations for being the cleanest pets, they are messy. Managing smells from the litter box and the litter they track out of the room is a JOB.

After researching self-cleaning litter boxes, I narrowed it down to one, the Petkit Pura X Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box. I liked it because it has great ratings – no cat injuries reported – and it’s square in shape with a completely flat top – making it versatile for any space you place it in. It’s Wi-Fi connected and comes with an app you can use to communicate how and when it should clean up after your cat’s done its business. No more sifting through litter and no more squatting and bending to scoop cat waste into a bag.

It’s only been a couple of weeks, but the cats have adjusted to it, the amount of cat litter tracked out of the box has reduced, and I like not having to do much besides pulling out the tray, bagging what’s been collected, and tossing it in the trash.

I love TV. I also still love watching TV on TVs, which is why the latest Roku has come in handy. It’s all the streaming stuff you love, easy to navigate, and has the quality sound and picture you’ve come to expect. Also, if you have a tech-averse parent who needs a TV upgrade, I can’t recommend this enough. The Roku device can turn most TVs into smart TVs, set up is easy, and the interface is straight forward.

Cleaning is a stress reliever for me, but that doesn’t mean I like to make it hard on myself. Hauling out the full-size vacuum isn’t always the best option, which is why I bought the Black + Decker Handheld Dust Buster. Let me tell you, I liked this thing so much I bought it again when the first one died six years later.

Never run out of lighters a gain with this rechargeable option. Someone I follow on Instagram had one and I thought, how cute! As a candle and incense kind of lady, I’m always running out of lighters or losing them around the house. With the ability to recharge it I never have to stand over a candle kicking myself for forgetting to add lighters to my shopping list.
