A Tradition Worth Passing On

Often, the first people who show us love are our relatives. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins changing our diapers, giving us kisses and encouragement, feeding us and hoping for our bright future even before we can imagine one.

Over time many of us realize that, for better or worse, the love they’re handing down to us often replicates the love they’ve received. Sometimes that means our work is to unlearn harmful patterns. But with some histories, like the one highlighted in Haile Cole’s beautiful photo essay, we pull up to the kitchen table and take note so that we can continue this loving tradition for the next generation.
